Centrifugal fans, also known as radial fans, are designed to direct air at an angle to the incoming stream of air. There are several types of radial fans and these can be categorised in a variety of ways, depending on their features.

Backward-Curved Centrifugal Fans vs Forward-Curved Centrifugal Fans
As the names suggest, these fans differ in how their fan blades are constructed. The blades of forward-curved fans curl in the direction of the fan wheel while backward-curved fans curve against the direction of the fan wheel.

As each fan type has its pros and cons, which fan to use often depends on the intention of the end-user. For example, forward-curved fans often produce a low amount of noise, making them ideal for air-conditioners. Meanwhile, backward-curved fans are excellent for intake suction, making them perfect for Air Handling Units (AHUs).

ebm-papst offers both backward-curved and forward-curved fans. However, we are most well known for our incredibly efficient backward-curved centrifugal fans. These are also known as the fans in the Radi-series.

Ideal for applications that require low airflow (e.g. precision air-conditioning units)
Marked Improvement in efficiency compared to traditional Alternating Current (AC) fan solutions

RadiPac
Impellers are made of aluminium
Majority has 3-phase motor
Can be part of a modular fan solution
Ideal for applications that require medium-high airflow and high total static pressure (e.g. large AHUs)
Marked Improvement in efficiency compared to traditional AC fan solutions
